Hello! My name is Kate Szekely, and I am an Actor, Producer and Teacher based in the New York City area. I moved here ten years ago to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, in the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, for a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Drama.
Upon graduating, I immediately immersed myself in the New York downtown theatre scene, not only acting, but directing and producing friends, collaborators and my own work in off and off-off Broadway venues.
In the meantime, I acquired an 800 hour Jivamukti Yoga certification and became a workshop facilitator in arts and wellness curriculum. I teach in yoga studios in Manhattan, Jersey City and Hoboken, as well as individual and corporate privates, and to the NYU Varsity Athletics teams. Past yoga, arts and wellness workshops have been at the Florida State Thespian Festival, Salons for Life Jersey City, and Smith College’s Day of Inclusion and Diversity.
Currently, I am the Resident Producer and Actor for Infinite Variety Productions (IVP), a non-profit company dedicated to spotlighting untold women’s stories throughout history. My focus, in the two years I have been with IVP, has been on generating original works of documentary theatre with my co-collaborator, Ashley Adelman, the founder of IVP. Together, we have created, workshopped, performed, and traveled with our two shows, In Their Footsteps- the stories of five women that served in the Vietnam War- and Displeyst- the true story of an Austrian Jewish family that escaped Nazi persecution by fleeing to the Philippines, only to then face Japanese occupation and American bombardment. Ashley and I have brought IVP to the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival, 59E59th street theatres, BorderLight Cleveland Fringe Festival, and are a Resident Company with Frigid NYC.
Growth as an actor and growth as a human being are synonymous.
